Collage
Years ago I was introduced to Hanji- Korean paper art by my sister in law and as a result have accumulated a large collection of Korean paper, glue and tools that I have been playing with. I discovered Gelii printing in 2022 during the pandemic lockdowns here in Melbourne, and it is not surprising that I was drawn to creating landscape images as a way of coping.
In what feels like serendipity, I have combined these two techniques in my latest works. Through much experimentation with different types of paper, glues and paint mediums I have managed to gradually increase the scale of my works from small to very large.
Visually, I think of my collage work as scattered memories put together, much like the collage technique itself. The work is the relocation of memories from different times, of scattered tastes, places, and feelings that are reshaped into a new topography and experience that becomes its own.
